Abstract :
One goal of this paper is to put forward a proposition that computer science and software engineering are distinct but related subjects and to clearly define how they are related. Another goal is to offer a recommendation on a set of skills and knowledge that could serve to distinguish proficient, “industrial-strength” software engineers. One potential use of this set of recommended skills and knowledge is as input in the development of a standardized software engineering curriculum that would produce graduates who would be highly valued by the software industry
