Abstract :
This paper analyses the performance of the distributed generator frequency protection if the time required for islanding detection (this is the utility anti-islanding requirement) is increased. Such analysis considers synchronous generators and three types of frequency-based relays: vector surge, rate of change of frequency and under/over frequency relays. Moreover, the concept of performance curves of frequency-based relays is employed. The results show that increasing the time required for islanding detection can improve substantially the islanding detection capability if proper devices and settings are used
