  • Abstract
The possibility of creating a wide range of grey scales based on the multidomain structure (FLC) is demonstrated. An active-matrix-addressed FLC black-and-white television display has been realized, confirming the greyscale capability. Its high contrast is almost viewing-angle independent; switching speed is high and no flicker is present. The disadvantages lie in the more difficult technology (cell thickness, FLC orientation, high-temperature FLC handling, and shock sensitivity) are among the factors to be dealt with.<>
