Abstract
Summary form only given. A review of recently supplied kilns shows the normal trend of increased technology and sophistication, automation and system integration. Microwave assisted gas firing serves to reinforce this fact. Electrical energy has to be of a particular benefit to be utilised. Other areas are in clean environments, ultra-high temperature kilns and when firing under specific controlled atmosphere conditions. Examples detail the various forms of radiant elements that can be used. These include wire and strip wound alloys, silicon carbide and molybdenum disilicide
