Abstract :
For many years it has been a research aim to produce high quality automatic speech recognition (ASR) devices. Over the last few years, quite advanced speech recognition systems have become commonplace in a range of application areas, due to the maturing of speech recognition technology and the continued performance improvements of microprocessors. The article reviews the speech recognition problem, outlines the dominant current techniques and research directions and lists a few applications
