Abstract :
This paper describes the estimation of flood area and its influenced land cover condition in the plain of the middle reaches of Yangtze River through the integrated analysis of DEM data and land cover classification data derived from LANDSAT/ETM+ on referring to the information by field survey. A few points of breaking on the embankment were assumed at the place where the river meanders greatly across the plain. It was clearly showed that the different distribution of flood submerged area and damaged land cover in the inland of each bank due to the distribution of several tributary rivers with their banks and each characteristic land cover.
