Abstract
Summary form only given. A system of finite-element numerical codes (PROTEUS, SPARK, and ABAQUS) was used to analyze the effects of the vacuum vessel in IGNITEX on plasma current induction and the electromagnetic stresses induced in the vacuum vessel during plasma disruptions. The effect of vacuum vessel configurations with and without breaks on plasma current induction was studied. Eddy current induction in the IGNITEX vacuum vessel was evaluated, and the electromagnetic loads induced by potential hard disruptions of the plasma in the ignited state were obtained. These loads provide the most severe constraints on the development of the vacuum vessel. In IGNITEX the vessel is supported by the massive magnet system. Peak stress during a typical transient scenario was evaluated
