Abstract
The author focuses on the development of the thin-film transistor (TFT) technologies that have contributed to the success of the current active-matrix liquid-crystal displays (LCDs), especially for video applications. He restricts the discussion to TFTs only. The design considerations for both the TFT array and the LCD are addressed, and several examples of the state of the art are shown. The basics of the design issues affecting video performance of TFT-LCDs are outlined. TFT-LCD operation is also discussed. Liquid-crystal and TFT array considerations are examined.<>
