Abstract :
Over the past seven years considerable advancement has been made to produce high temperature superconductor materials in suitable forms for power application. The performance of the materials is constantly being improved and it is foreseen that the basic elements for superconducting machinery, cables and transformers will be available in due course. The requirements of critical current density and field dependence of such are greater for some applications than others and, because of this, it is likely that the superconducting fault current limiter (SC-FCL) will be an early application. It is also increasingly realised that for other superconducting equipment to be successfully utilised on the power network will require a SC-FCL
