Abstract :
Currently, the Internet has become an significant part of the global communication infrastructure. With more and more new services emerging, the current IP network may not satisfy the user demands in the future. At present, most routing scheme typically routes all the traffic over one discovered single path, which are inherently slow in responding to congestion and traffic burst. Furthermore, the use of only one single path often causes the waste of network resources. As a single-path routing protocol, Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) suffers the same problems. An alternative method to solve the problems is multipath routing. With better sharing, the multipath routing shows the better performance. This paper develops a multipath routing algorithm (DSMC) based on the multi-metrics of the link - bandwidth and propagation delay. And, the simulation results reveals the superiority of the multipath routing algorithm (DSMC) in three aspects, which are better load balancing, smaller queuing delay and better average utilization of the network.
