Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. Fully electromagnetic simulations of the beam dynamics in a relativistic photocathode injector have been made using a PIC (particle-in-cell) code developed for the FEL program at CEA/France. This code solves the coupled Maxwell equations on unstructured meshes. assuming a cylindrical geometry. Two different numerical techniques have been investigated for the Maxwell solver: a finite volume method on Delaunay-Voronoi meshes, and a conformal finite-element method. Both methods were tested on a simplified injector geometry, and the results were compared to those obtained with the improved structured meshes MASK code
