Abstract :
A hybrid estimate model for transmission distortions is proposed by analyzing characteristics of error propagation in multiview video coding (MVC) in this paper. Based on this model, a joint source-channel RDO mode selection algorithm is proposed, which combines the transmission distortion estimation model with traditional RDO to select out the optimal mode to decrease the distortion of decoded pictures. Both proposed model and algorithm are demonstrated via simulation results for video transmission over packet loss channel. The transmission distortions can be estimated quickly and accurately by proposed model. Compared with RDO in JMVC, joint source-channel RDO mode selection algorithm can improve the quality of decoded pictures 1.38 dB in average when the video streams are transmitted through error-prone channels.
