Abstract
An L-probe coupled circular patch antenna with four metallic shorting posts is demonstrated. The TM01 conical and the TM11 broadside modes could be excited separately by two sets of L-shaped probes at the same frequency range. For a tested antenna operated at 1.85GHz, the measured bandwidth (SWR<2) is 24%, and the isolation between the two input ports is 28dB. The simulated gains of the conical and broadside modes are 4dBi and 10dBi respectively. With suitable switching feed networks, the antenna can be reconfigurable in radiation pattern.
