Abstract :
In this paper, we present a review of physical layer networking options and enabling system technologies for efficient integration of optical and wireless access network infrastructure. We discuss that by exploiting the optical access network and its future evolutions for providing effective backhaul for wireless access, a unified backbone network capable of supporting an integrated offering of both wired and wireless broadband access can easily be achieved.
