Abstract :
In rural areas of China, water quality problems emerge as people´s life standards improve and they impose a negative effect on both people´s physical and emotional health, especially problem in safe drinking water. Aiming at simple water supplying technologies, substandard water sources, immature management and poor guarantee problem, we selected membrane filtration as treatment technology for safe drinking water in rural areas. We also set up a demonstration project for integrated ultra filtration membrane system in Xiushan County, Chongqing. Operation results showed that: quality of effluent from the treatment plant processed with integrated ultra filtration membrane technology is superior to effluent processed with traditional drinking water treatment technology. Besides, it saves both cost and area. The adoption of intermittent sterilization not only solved the problem of substandard microbial indicators effectively, but also simplified disinfection and ensured water quality of the pipe. Thus the operation of the demonstration project offered important guidance to the promotion and application of the integrated ultra filtration membrane treatment technology in rural areas of China.
