Abstract :
This paper investigates the application of channel reservation as a means of quality of service provisioning in cognitive radio networks used for dynamic spectrum access in accordance with the hierarchical spectrum overlay approach. A two-dimensional continuous-time Markov chain is used to model the serving system and a novel approximate but computationally efficient and simple analytical approach for evaluation of the steady state probabilities of the state-transition diagram is proposed and validated by extensive simulation experiments. Numerical results are presented and conclusions are drawn.
