Abstract :
It is our interest to examine how cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) influences platelet adhesion and thrombosis on the synthetic materials used in CPB and in implantable cardiovascular prosthetics. CPB appears to have significant effects on platelet interaction with commonly used clinical biomaterials, including altering platelet spreading, formation of thrombi and potentially inducing the creation of platelet microparticles
