Abstract :
The interaction between the hull and the sea surface plays an important role in the electromagnetic (EM) scattering of a ship on the sea surface; it has a scattering mechanism similar to a dihedral comer reflector. A rough sea surface under different sea states causes radar cross section (RCS) variations of complex targets over the sea surface. The paper proposes an approximate technique to evaluate the RCS of complex targets on the sea surface; it is based on the special scattering mechanism of a dihedral comer reflector, combined with an analytical modeling method. Promising results are demonstrated using two typical examples.
