Abstract
A novel approach to PCM (pulse code modulation)-based digital network management is development based on a study of the shortcomings of existing methods. This approach makes use of under-utilized channels within the PCM frame structure to communicate management information between nodes. The method is more rapid than previous approaches and requires no additional infrastructure to gather alarm and monitoring information
