Abstract :
The present paper discusses the design and development of low loss dual mode PIN diode phase shifter in MIC configuration for medium power scanned array radar. The paper discuses the design topologies to achieve the low loss in the phase shift bits and a hybrid innovative 3 diode configuration. The Phase shifter is designed to achieve 1.7 dB insertion losses in six-bit configuration for 12% of bandwidth at S band of frequency operation. The paper also report a novel concept of realizing a 180° phase shift bit using a planar folded dipole with switched inputs realized using PIN diodes. The design incorporates the inherent 180° phase reversal of RF signal, which can be obtained by reversing the signal path through a folded dipole arms. The planar folded dipole makes the design attractive. The integrated phase shift bit and folded dipole design promises a compact and low loss topology. The design topology to realize a 180° phase shift bit considering the dipole input impedance and incorporation of radial stubs for wideband matching are discussed with the practical measured results in detail.
