Very compact ortho-mode transducer suited for integrated feed system solutions

Abstract :
A novel very compact and symmetric OMT design is established that is based on a common short circuited dual polarized waveguide with side wall interfaces at the same distance from the short circuit. The vertical polarization of the common waveguide uses a waveguide interface, while the horizontal polarization is connected by a coaxial probe at the opposite side wall (180° location). Experimental verification of this principle has been performed with a draft prototype at 26GHz. A thorough design with EM CAD shows that this compact OMT design is capable to provide high performance properties over more than 15% bandwidth.
