Abstract
This work describes the use of the Directly Heated Resonator (DHR) technology in miniature OCXO. Two designs incorporating DHR technology have been developed. One is a Resonator Thermostat (RT) housed in a standard TO-8 package. It contains a directly heated SC-cut crystal and thermocontroller circuit. The other is an OCXO packaged and hermetically sealed in a standard 14 DIP. This design integrates an RT and the oscillator circuitry in one package. Two designs developed for this project have demonstrated performance in terms of frequency stability an order of magnitude better than currently available TCXOs, while being comparable in size, power consumption and warm-up time to the latter. This paper discusses design considerations and test results
