Abstract :
This paper presents a patient-specific algorithm for estimating the complete 3-D surface of the breast using recorded backscatter signals. The approach combines a procedure for estimating a finite set of points on the surface of the breast with a surface-fitting procedure tailored for this breast imaging application. The accuracy of this approach using backscatter signals computed from an anatomically realistic numerical breast phantom is demonstrated. Comparisons between the estimated surface and the actual surface of the phantom show excellent agreement
