Abstract
In a practical matrix converter, performance is degraded by effects that are not predicted when the normal simplifying assumptions are made. This paper identifies, explains and quantifies these effects. Particularly important is the potential for generation of low frequency harmonics at both the input and output ports due to switching ripple at the other port
