Abstract
In this paper, an accurate and computationally efficient algorithm is presented to reconstruct the permittivity profile of two-dimensional dielectric objects buried in a multilayer medium. The presented algorithm makes use of a combination of the complex images (CI) Green´s functions and the Born iterative method (BIM) which is normally used in reconstructing the permittivity profile of dielectric objects located in free space. The closed form representation of the multilayer Green´s functions in terms of a short series of complex images each having the form of a free space Green´s function enables us to detect and identify buried objects in multilayer media in the same way that these objects are identified in free space using BIM. In this way numerical efficiency is achieved without sacrificing the ease and accuracy of the BIM
