Abstract :
The electric utility industry is undergoing dramatic changes. Many observers believe that this industry will be the next regulated monopoly to be transformed into a competitive, deregulated business. This paper discusses some of these industry trends, threats, and opportunities, and describes how one utility is responding to these changes. The impact of these changes on the economics of utility power systems is discussed
