  • Abstract
The authors study the application of a fading estimation/cancellation method to trellis-coded continuous phase modulation (TC-CPM) schemes. Based on the maximum likelihood ratio test (MLRT), they derive two algorithms that cancel the effects of nonselective, multiplicative fading from MSK-type (minimum-shift-keying) signals. The first one is an extension of an algorithm presented previously by the authors (see Proc. 1988 Canadian Conf. on Electr. & Comp. Eng., p.689-93, Nov. 1988). The second one is an algorithm which is based on a multisampling approach. Performance evaluation results obtained by computer simulation indicate that even higher error floor reductions than the ones reported in the 1988 paper are possible
