Abstract :
Numerous examples are evident of the need for a compact electric generator that can provide dual independently controlled AC and DC voltage outputs for such applications as standby service, aircraft and vehicle electrical systems, and other applications. The generator described here utilizes radial air-gap magnetic fields of different pole numbers with dual stator and field windings, which also might be combined. The pole numbers are selected for the magnetic fields to be orthogonal, i.e., noninterfering. The article describes winding patterns, anticipated performance, and trade-offs between a dual-voltage generator and two separate generators.
