Abstract
Equipment for outdoor applications requires equipment that is electrically, mechanically and environmentally robust. Historically this meant power conversion solutions that were expensive. Cost savings have been limited due to limited market and limited production volume. More costly standard rather than more cost effective custom solutions have been the norm. However, in recent years, the competition and price pressures have intensified. Lower cost and physically smaller powering solutions are needed. This paper describes design practices that can lower the cost of power solutions for outdoor equipment.
