Abstract
Describes the new generation of satellites that EUTELSAT is planning to introduce as a replacement of its current second generation of satellites. Information is provided on the choices which have been made on the technical characteristics of its satellites, and indicates the status of procurement and schedule associated with the different programmes. EUTELSAT ordered two different families of spacecraft for the continuity and growth of its services. The first is the HOT BIRD family, optimized for high power analogue and digital television transmissions, deployed at 130° East, the orbital position dedicated to entertainment programmes. The second family, presently called the EUTELSAT III W24 satellites, is optimized for a range of telecommunications services
