Abstract
The paper addresses a problem of designing a simple, efficient power line network simulator embedded with two types of multirate filter bank precoders, weighted orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and wavelet-based maximally decimated filter bank (MDFB). In fact, power line channel is time-varying due to the appliances that are connected to outlets since appliances often exhibit input impedance that is a function of the instantaneous amplitude of the mains voltage. Hence, constructing a discrete time-varying block channel model in the time domain that captures the cyclostationary nature of the channel response, we propose the overall input output relationship for the case where multiple appliances are cascaded. Thereafter, we numerically verify whether the model is appropriately designed for a real test channel and compare two precoder schemes in terms of error probability performance.
