Abstract
This paper focuses on that the surface wave on the patch antenna has great effects on its performance in electronic toll collection (ETC) system. The surface wave reduction condition for the circle patch antenna is studied. A cored circle patch antenna operated at 5.8 GHz is presented to remarkably reduce the surface wave, but these did not significantly reduce the efficiency or usefulness of the patch.
