Abstract :
An access network protocol running optical packet switching traffic is designed to optimize the resource allocation and buffer management. The deployment of edge electronic buffer and the scheduling in advance illuminate the limitations of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and avoid the complexity and expense problems that usual optical technologies have. Collision-free packet switching is enabled through the successful exchange of control messages. The data transmission control is centralized, however the traffic smoothing is distributed to the edges. The protocol takes advantage of feedback-based scheme to manage the congestion situation where end users are able to dynamically change their data rate to adapt the network. Modelling and simulations are done to evaluate the network performance running TCP/IP traffic
