Abstract
A new beamformer, named mode decomposition beamformer (MDB), for circular array mounted on a baffle is presented. In the proposed beamformer, the mode strength of sound field is computed using boundary element method (BEM), and then mode components of incoming wave are extracted via decomposing the sound field around the circular array by the spatial discrete Fourier transform. The synthesized beampattern is obtained based on the mode components and corresponding mode coefficients. The results of computer simulations for a 12-element circular array mounted on a rigid baffle verified the effectiveness of the beamformer developed in this paper
