Abstract :
This paper examines the viability of using a dual-mode antenna in size constrained terminals. A compact microstrip multi-mode antenna has been designed and its performance in terms of spectral efficiency of the systems has been presented. This antenna is designed to work in low order modes, thus allowing compactness. The used channel model takes into account not only the spatial correlation, but also the modal correlation. Using this model, a compact terminal made of two dual-mode antennas has been demonstrated to perform better than a three omnidirectional antennas terminal and close to a four one
