Abstract
In this paper a new method of improving bandwidth is discussed. In microstrip antenna various types of fields are produced, out of these very few are responsible for producing far field radiations or useful radiations. In this paper methods are discussed to enhance the useful (which produce far field radiations) fields by making the size of ground plane smaller than radiating patch. This increases the bandwidth to a very large extent. An antenna is designed to give bandwidth from 0.5 GHz to 6.8 GHz using only ground and radiating patch. Effect of using slotted ground on the bandwidth is also observed using Sierpinski gasket antenna. The antennas are designed and simulated using Agilents ADS 2003A momentum software
