Abstract
Fields above about 500 kV/mm can only occur on a transient basis in organic dielectrics, as high field conduction will cause generation of space charge which reduces the field. This generation of field-limiting space charge must be associated with a field-dependent time constant which may provide the best basis for investigating conduction at very high fields. The present contribution compares computed space charge-related parameters under combined ac and surge conditions for two functional descriptions of high field conduction
