Abstract :
This paper introduces a hybrid modulation scheme called N-dimensional Pulse Shape and Position Modulation (N-PSPM), using hermite pulses for Time-Hopped Ultra-Wide-Band communication in indoor home network. The proposed PSPM scheme provides the cost effective and power efficient solution for high speed UWB system and needs less number of orthogonal pulses than required for UWB system based on PPM or PSM technique alone. The proposed PSPM UWB system with simplified hardware is modeled in MATLAB Simulink and is evaluated for its performance in UWB channel models CM1 and CM3, to simulate indoor communication over short distance of 4 m and 10 m respectively for high data transmission rates. Simulated results show that high data rates of 1.5 Gbps can be achieved using hermite based N-d-PSPM-UWB system with BER of 10-4 at sampling frequency of 50 GHz, at bit SNR of 24 dB over 4 meter and at bit SNR of 33 dB over 10 meter.
