Abstract
In the design of a 15 W power amplifier from 600 MHz to 1000 MHz, we analyze and compare the characteristics of the capacitors used in the matching circuits. We build a surface-mount capacitor model and put it into the amplifier simulation. By this way, we study the matching capacitor´s influence on the amplifier performance. The simulation result illustrates that there are great difference between using ideal capacitors and using actual capacitors. General purpose capacitors are not qualified for matching completely. RF ceramic surface-mount capacitors may also worsen the amplifier performance such as power out, gain and efficiency. The worsening degree increases evidently along with the working frequency.
