Abstract :
With the development of GIS, map maker, and especially digital earth, how to develop high level intelligent automatic cartographic generalization system has been one of the urgent problems. By developing an automatic generalization system called “GenerMap”, the research group saw that a good generalization system should obey the rules for example good usability, accuracy, intelligence, simpleness, integration and extension and so on. Furthermore, system should take more researches on the modules of generalization algorithms management, knowledge lib establishment, operation monitoring, quality assessment, and process controlment etc, and establish an intelligent automatic generalization process control framework based on these modules so as to approve generalization quality and automation greatly.
