Abstract :
The Control of Major Accidents and Hazards Directive is the replacement of an existing Regulation which came out of the EEC (Seveso Directive) and is known as CIMAH in the UK; the scope of the newer directive is wider and will require to be adopted within industries which have no track record of managing such legislation. The case study described by the author is a safety report within the existing CIMAH regulations which will be updated to meet the new requirements. The requirements on industry are as follows: all major hazards must be identified; a safety report must be prepared and submitted to the competent authority; the Directive requires industry to incorporate safety and reliability into the design and construction of the installation; and the ongoing operation, maintenance and change arrangements must be managed
