Abstract
The smoke emitted from the combustion of nylon fabric is studied. Transmission loss of infrared light in the smoke was more than 50 dB larger than that of THz waves. THz absorption spectra showed the existence of hydrogen cyanide in the smoke. These results prove the advantage of THz waves over infrared light for remote toxic gas sensing at disaster sites.
