  • Abstract
Software tools support software development processes and reflect the types of applications being developed. Over the past 20 years, applications have evolved significantly, from those based on a single processor to client-server to n-tier Web-based. Future applications will take advantage of emerging technologies in high-bandwidth networking, “smart” mobile devices and speech processing. Future tools will have to evolve to support the development of applications that use those technologies
