  • Abstract
The study investigates software process engineering boosted with software process modelling and computer based support for it. The research question discussed is how to support process understanding, guidance and process model utilisation with a selected design environment. We study the research question by conducting a process improvement experiment in an industrial software development environment at Nokia. In practice, the experiment reported includes an introduction of Telecom Design Environment (TDE) and customisation of it for the local needs of NMP/SP at the Jyvaskyla site. TDE is a Nokia in-house tool, which provides multi-user modelling capabilities and integrates both process modelling and production support. The TDE customisation discussed in the paper is focused in the development of process templates and associated online guidance. The effect of TDE adoption is evaluated against the current process support as well as against the feedback received from software designers participating in customisation
