Abstract :
The article formulates requirements for achieving flexibility and security for distributed persistent objects. We argue for the separation of a user-view level from an implementation level and for the integration of capabilities for semantic protection. We describe a system based on these criteria which allows simple, secure programming of multimedia applications using Java objects distributed across the Internet
