Abstract :
Cold production is a method for enhancing primary production from heavy oil reservoirs. Reservoir conditions, perforation and completion technology are the key issues to affect production rate of cold production. In the same condition of perforation and completion, the reservoir properties controls production rate of cold production. In this paper, the reservoir characteristics in the Sparky and Lloydminster formations of sixty-three wells of Alberta Lloydminster block are evaluated through core measurements and detailed petrophysical analyses. The distributions of reservoir porosity, permeability and effective thickness are displayed using GIS software. Investigation of the relationships between reservoir properties and productivities of cold production indicates that porosity, clay content and effective thickness mainly contribute to productivity for sandstone heavy oil reservoir. However, effective thickness is not one of the key factors on productivity for siltstone reservoir. The result will provide a foundation for reservoir simulation in heavy oil exploitation.
