Abstract :
Flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) devices are used to increase utilization of existing assets. The widespread application of FACTS is limited due to high cost, high voltage, high power, etc. A novel distributed FACTS controller (DFC) based on active variable inductance (AVI) is designed as an alternative approach to realize cost-effective power flow control. The DFC based on AVI is a small rated compensator that can be controlled either positive inductive or negative inductive including in transient state. The negative inductance can cancel the existing inductance partly in the power circuit without resonance. This paper presents the structure and the principle of DFC based on AVI, and the simulation and experimental results verify that designed DFC has the good effectiveness of power flow control characteristics
