Abstract
Distinct from the rapid industrialization since 1949, service industries in China have experienced a zigzag development. It is the recent rapid development of service industries and the internal restructuring of them with increasing share of some producer services that attract the corresponding research interests in them. This paper based on a review of recent trends and issues provides an examination of change in China´s service industries to access the degree to which this process has affected contemporary urban transformation. Altogether, it covers three facets of this dynamic: service industries with urbanization and urban development, as well as spatial organization of service industries in urban spatial restructuring. Based on them, a summary to directions for future research is put forwarded at the end of this paper.
