Abstract :
This paper describes the first steps in the development of a high-power THz-range gyrotron with pulsed solenoids for remote detection of concealed radioactive materials. We present design data on a 670 GHz, 300 kW gyrotron with pulsed solenoid, report the progress in fabrication and testing the 28 T pulsed solenoid and its power supply and discuss the detection concept based on focusing high-power THz wave beams in small spots where the wave electric field amplitude exceeds the threshold required for initiating the breakdown.
