Abstract :
In this paper it is proved that for one-pump fiber parametric wavelength converters there exists an optimal wavelength at which the allowable output and input wavelength range can be maximized. Analytical expressions of the optimal wavelength and the corresponding maximal bandwidth are obtained. Then a two-stage bidirectionally pumping method is proposed to fully utilize the bandwidth within which efficient four-wave mixing and low gain ripple occurs. Using this method the allowable input and output wavelength range can be increased by 4 dB compared to the one-stage one.
